ZWave
ZWave is one of the newer generation HA wireless mesh protocols.
We have migrated most of our X10 Appliance module infrastructure over to this now. A couple of simple Perl modules have been written to allow MisterHouse to talk to 2 different ZWave controllers over our LAN. The main house is covered by a MiCasaVerde VeraLite and our garden shed is covered by a Raspberry Pi with a Razberry daughter card.
Both modules communications are currently unidirectional, and they simply issue commands to the ZWave controllers, over their respective HTTP interfaces. This relies on the ‘local intelligence’ of the ZWave controllers to manage changes of state on the remote appliance modules.
Next steps will be to allow duplex communication so that the controllers can return state or take over other aspects of RF integration.
For example the VeraLite can act as a host for Rfxcom receivers.
